I am happy to announce that the harvester macro has been updated. It is now much faster, collects more data and it is much more accurate.
What is new in version 2.0?
I rewrote the macro from the ground up. The macro is using a different method to gather information. Instead of 5-10 seconds, it takes about 1 second to get all the information. This way it uses a much smaller band width on the Numista site.
Unlike in the original macro, I am not creating an extra sheet in the Excel document, but accessing information directly from the web site.
Version 2.0 gathers all the data from the obverse and reverse descriptions, Version 1.0 was only able to get the first line of the description, which wasn’t always sufficient.
I also added 6 more fields, now both obverse and reverse legend and designer is retrieved if it is available. You can also get the type of currency which Numista added to the coin descriptions recently, and now you can get the subject of the coin if it exists.
The original macro produced some errors in approximately 1-2 percent of the cases. I have implemented a stricter error checking, I was able to download hundreds of records without a single error message.
Since the macro is faster now, instead of two beeps, you will only hear one beep which indicates that the record was retrieved and saved in the Excel sheet.
How to get it?
You can download the macro from the harvester page. You can either download the Excel file and replace your original, or if you prefer you can just get the code and place it into your Excel file.
